Dear Arty,  

I am a frustrated musician!  I have received formal training, and worked for many years to develop my sound. There don’t seem to be any opportunities for a musician to play for a live audience.   I have not lived in Abbotsford long enough to develop a proven track record when it comes to pulling in an audience.  I just want to play and not for free. Do you have any advice for me?

Thanks for your email! We actually had a very similar question posed to us here at the Arts Council several years ago. Sometimes, where there is a lack of opportunity, you must create one and that’s what we did. We created a program in conjunction with local coffee shops as well as musicians such as yourself with the help of Envision Financial.

The goal of this program is to provide an casual and fun atmosphere for local musicians to perform.  Each musician involved in the program is paid to perform. The concerts take place every Saturday from April to June and September to November.   We are currently accepting application for the 2010 Envision Coffee House Concert Series.
